April Newsletter - Guest Bartender, Tuna, and Green
Sea Rocket Bist... — Mon, 04/20/2009 - 20:51
In case I hadn't noticed that summer is on it's way, the world decided to make it very clear to me today by getting up in to the 90s. Despite the lethargy caused by the heat, we've been busy at the Rocket with some fun and interesting projects. Here's a rundown...
We've invited David, super Toronado bartender, to come down and hang out with on Tuesday, April 28th. He'll be tending the bar, and if you know him, you already know that this is going to be a blast. Come on down and drink some of his favorite beer, Curieux from Allagash Brewery that we're getting just for this occasion.
We're holding a 6-course Belgian style dinner and beer pairing on Wednesday. I told Chris that he was crazy to do 6 courses, but it's all sold out, so I guess crazy is a good thing. This dinner should be pretty spectacular, so keep an eye out for next time we do something like this.
...for instance, maybe you'd like to try the 4-course tuna and Ballast Point beer pairing dinner that we're holding on May 5th with the folks from American Tuna and Jeff Brancato and his friends from Ballast Point, one of San Diego's award winning breweries. Or if you can't wait that long for some amazing pole caught American Tuna, try our 10 Buck Tuna & Beer at the bar Sunday to Thursday.
Some new restaurants are on their way to 30th & Upas, including a reggae cafe from the DJs Tribe of Kings.
We've been hanging out with Megan who raises grass-fed beef and lamb up near Temecula. The sheep are getting hot this time of year too, so to make them more comfortable, she shears off their wool. You'll be seeing more meat from Megan on our menu in the near future.
Last weekend, we hung out with hundreds of fishermen at the Day at the Docks. Our friend Tommy from Catalina Offshore was there talking on the radio and selling uni goop.
The Rocket is getting greener, little-by-little. We've been recycling and composting for a long time now, and now we'll be using Dr. Bronner's hippie soap to wash our dishes. Oh yes, and there's a little thing called Earth Day coming up. Happy E-Day!
There's also a very interesting local food conference coming up a City College on May 1st and 2nd.
The North Park Festival of the Arts is coming up on May 17th.
