Sea Rocket Bist... — Fri, 06/19/2009 - 17:44
Happy Summer Everyone! Here's what's going on at Sea Rocket these days.
First of all, a fun media mention on a Channel 6 Green Scene segment featuring Dennis as a sustainable seafood consultant.
A Few Menu Notes
At the moment, we have Stone Brewing Company's Oaked Arrogant Bastard on cask, a delicious Mixed String Bean Salad special using yellow, green and purple beans both from Crow's Pass Farm and the City College Community Garden downtown, tossed in our balsamic vinaigrette along with tomatoes, pine nuts and curly parsley, and this weekend, if you're one of the lucky ones, you'll get to try out some of the amazing local Spot Prawns that we picked up from Andy Saraspy, which we'll be either throwing on the grill or into the pan whole with some Moroccan-inspired spices. Some of these guys are huge!

We also recently tested out some Short Ribs from Megan's farm in Temecula (where we get our lamb and pork). Christy made an incredibly spicy/tangy jerk marinade using hot pepper and citrus juice, and we served them up individually on our tapas list. We got rave reviews from those of you who tried it (and had lots of you ordering a second or third piece after the first taste!) so we're planning to make that a permanent part of our tapas menu as soon as we can get our hands on some more of it!
In other recent food news, our Grilled Lamburgers flew out the door recently when we debuted them, but don't worry, they're on the menu to stay.

Upcoming Events you might have fun attending...
We'll be hosting the San Diego Green Economy Mixer on Wednesday, June 24th from 6-8pm. Join a great group of eco-minded professionals to network and share ideas about doing business in environmentally friendly ways.
We'll be taking our tasty Fish Pate (made mainly with White Sea Bass) and some Wild Rice Salad to the Japan Society's 7th Annual Beer & Sake Festival on Thursday, June 25th from 6-10pm at the San Diego Marriott Del Mar. They will be featuring some excellent local beers as well as all of the Japanese food and drink you could ever want in one place.
Todd Gloria seems to like the bistro... We'll be hosting another City Council Meet & Greet on Saturday, June 27th at 10:30am. Come make your voice heard!
We're still hosting Movie Nights once a month (instead of weekly). The next film will be Life Aquatic, on Thursday July 16th at 7:30pm. Watch the trailer on youtube here.
Bruno Tanonis's art is up in the restaurant and we'll be hosting a closing party in August so you all can meet him.
Miscellaneous Stuff
We had a blast celebrating our One Year Anniversary on June 1st. Thanks to all of our fans for coming in to wish us congratulations, and thanks to the Linkery folks for hanging out with us/doing our work for us that night! We look forward to serving you for many more years to come.
Sea Rocket has been on-line for a while now, but we just finally rigged our service so we can share it with everyone! Feel free to get on-line the next time you're dining with us.
Our good friend Megan who raises grass-fed lamb and cattle near Temecula has a blog now.
Andrea Peterson who sells us produce through Crow's Pass has a beautiful bed and breakfast that you should definitely check out.
You'll notice (if you look up in the dining room) that we've started a sound-dampening project to help out on those busy nights when it can get pretty loud. After saving them up over the last several months or so, we've stapled and glue-gunned a bunch of egg crates and wine packing cardboard to the ceiling in a pattern that radiates out from the center. It's a work in progress (cuz we don't have quite enough material yet to cover the entire surface) but should add some much-needed sound proofing to the place as well as some really interesting textures and patterns. Let me know what you think of it next time you're in!
