October Wrap-Up
Sea Rocket Bist... — Wed, 10/29/2008 - 15:41
Fall is well underway and the holiday season is looming. There's a lot going on so here's the rundown. We hope to see you both at the bistro and about!
Halloween!
Celebrate with us on Friday the 31st (hey, that's 13 backwards, isn't it...spooky!) We'll give 1 FREE BEER to everyone sporting a costume- all you have to do is ask. AND, after 9pm, all draft beers are $3 for the rest of the night, so stay a while and drink up all our great local brews!
I'll have the mahi-mahi with a movie, please.
We've got our Thursday Night Movie Series going in the front room and have posted the titles we'll be showing in November. No reservations required. Just show up around 8pm and watch a flick for free, sponsored by Holly, owner of Citizen Video in South Park.
I love fish tacos, poaching things in beer, and little fish
In addition to our new Fish Taco Plate, Christy has created an unbelievably tasty new dessert. Poached pear wrapped in fillo dough with a thin layer of creamy goat cheese and topped with a honey-beer reduction sauce that's to die for! Served warm with vanilla ice cream. You really have to try it to believe how delicious it is!
We've also begun to serve a Sardine Antipasto, a cold combination starter of sardine fillets poached in olive oil, some lovely red beet salad, roasted garlic and giant caper berries served with fresh ciabatta bread. This is a great way to start off a meal, especially in this continuing warm weather. Those folks who have tried it so far give it a big thumbs up, and it's just another great way to sample our fresh San Diego sardines. Of course we'll keep our signature whole grilled sardines on the menu as well.
Buzzzzzz
Dennis and I had a brief but exciting appearance on the KUSI morning news on Saturday, October 25th, where we showed the anchors how to crack open a fresh sea urchin and grilled up some sardines for them to try. It was a hoot, and a hit! You can watch the segment on-line if you have a PC.
In October 23rd's Union Tribune Night & Day insert, Sea Rocket Bistro was mentioned several times in regards to providing local, sustainable seafood and unique menu items, including great photos of both our grilled sardines and our sea urchin bisque. Thanks to their food writers for the kudos!
Here's one article, and here's another.
Calendar of Fun Stuff
Taste Maker's Ball
This Saturday, November 1st, Sea Rocket Bistro will be contributing ceviche to the Reader's Taste Maker's Ball, a first-annual pre-holiday affair held at the Harbor Island Sheraton. Check out their website for tickets and to see the list of food and beverage providers.
Election Night Celebration
Join us next Tuesday, November 4th to celebrate...well, whoever wins the election! They'll be celebrating, so we may as well celebrate too. We'll give 1 complimentary glass of champagne to everyone who wants one. This is a big day for all of us.
Opera Night at Sea Rocket
Join us at Sea Rocket Bistro on Wednesday, November 12th for a Taste of Opera sponsored by the San Diego Opera. They're coordinating a series of lectures related to this season's operas, and we'll be hosting the one based on "Peter Grimes," a story set in a small fishing village.
Wine & Food Festival
On November 15th, we'll be participating in the San Diego Bay Wine & Food Festival happening downtown from the 12th through the 16th. Saturday the 15th will be the Grand Event where we'll be featuring some of the unique local seafood that is on our menu.
