Thursday Night Movies

I always had a childhood dream of having my own home movie theater. That was before home projection systems were within the financial reach of birthday and Christmas money. Prices for projection systems have fortunately come down and Sea Rocket Bistro now has a 10 foot movie screen with table seating for about 20 people.
To have some fun with it, we're starting a series of Dinner & Movie Nights every Thursday at 8pm. Holly, owner of Citizen Video in South Park, will be providing the movies. You should check out the amazing selection of films at her store. There will be no charge for the movie - it's just a fun way to spend an evening, and as much as possible, the movies will be about food and fish. If you have any suggestions for some good titles, let us know. We'll maintain a schedule here a few weeks out so you can plan when to come. No reservations - just first come, first seated. Full dinner service will be available throughout, so no need to arrive early to eat unless you'd like to.
Below is the lineup for the next few weeks. We look forward to seeing you there!

Big Night
Some of our neighbors told me about this movie and it sounded like the perfect one to start with. Two brothers come from Italy to open an Italian restaurant in America. One, Primo, is a culinary genius and the other, Secondo, is the smooth front-man who tries to keep the restaurant financially afloat, despite few customers. The owner of a nearby successful restaurant (despite its mediocre food) offers to have his friend, a big-time jazz musician, play at the restaurant to attract attention to them. Primo begins to prepare his masterpiece, a feast of a lifetime, for the brother's big night... Check out the trailer.
Note: This movie pairs well with local lobster risotto.

The Perfect Storm
George Clooney is a swordfisherman in this movie (just like Keith here in San Diego). They go out on a fishing trip and a big storm comes up... Hollywood style! Here's the trailer. And check out what NOAA has to say about the real storm.

Tortilla Soup
This is a remake of a Taiwanese film called Eat Drink, Man Woman. Set in L.A., a retired Mexican-American chef shares his home with his three beautiful single adult daughters under one simple rule - be home for Sunday dinner! Each daughter is looking for fulfillment outside the family circle, but it all comes together a the dinner table. Check out the trailer.
Note: Maybe we'll whip up some tortilla soup for this film!

L'iceberg
I spent some time in Belgium for college, and this quirky looking film from there caught my eye. Fiona is the manager of a fast-food restaurant. She lives comfortably with her family in the suburbs. In other words, Fiona is happy. One day she gets locked in a walk-in freezer. She escapes the next morning and finds out that her husband and two children didn't even notice she was missing. She becomes obsessed with everything cold and icy - snow, polar bears, refrigerators, icebergs. One day, she drops everything, climbs into a frozen goods delivery truck and leaves home. For a real iceberg. Click on the trailer link at the right to see a preview.
If you're interested in reserving the entire room for a private movie party (or non-movie event), we can accommodate you on other nights as well.
