Our neighbors Tina & Andres are scheduling a variety of events to help raise money for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society through Team in Training. Tina was recently diagnosed with Lymphoma and is undergoing chemotherapy for the next six months, so we offered to host their first event via a light-hearted cocktail party on Thursday, July 12th starting at 7pm.
For $15 at the door, we’ll provide some tasty hors d’oeuvres, part of that money will go straight to Team in Training, and they’ll also be doing some prize drawings for massages, gift certificates and other donated items. This money does not benefit them directly at all, but goes to fund cancer research, and to help support cancer patients and their families through a variety of support programs.
What does eating local have to do with killing cancer? Well if you’re reading this blog you probably are already aware of the highly processed, subsidized, and industrialized state of our food system- many foods as we know them today may not actually be food at all but man-made products engineered to be eaten anyways! Many people believe that most of today’s serious illnesses can be attributed to environmental toxins as well as toxins used in the creation of such “foods.” On Andres’ page, you’ll find Tina’s story, as well as some helpful tips that make it easier to get through the treatments needed to fight cancer, including eating healthier and having more aware eating habits (#2 – Eat Good & Real Food). Go Tina!!
