Sea Rocket has gone bananas for Monkey Paw Brewing!! And to prove it, we’ll be featuring four of their small-batch, handcrafted, East Village beers as part of a special one-night-only pairing dinner on Thursday, August 16th.
Owner Scot Blair and Brewer Derek Freese will be with us for the night to meet you and answer any questions you may have about these creative concoctions! Reservations are strongly recommended (but not absolutely necessary) and can be made by calling us at 619-255-7049.
All pairings will be available a la carte, so there’s no need to commit to all four pairings, but we think you’ll try them all anyways! Each pairing will cost between $10-$15 including a 6-ounce pour. Here’s the menu:
lime cilantro ice, duck cracklin, and chile
paired with Monkey Gose Bananas
- – -
pickled avocado, watermelon radish, mango vinaigrette, pineapple
paired with Pineapple X-Press XPA
- – -
Sous Vide Smoked Corned Beef
Kansas City style BBQ sauce, baked beans with duck confit
paired with Sweet Georgia Brown
- – -
paired with Rich Man’s IIPA
Here are some detailed descriptions of the beers!
MONKEY GOSE BANANAS – GOSE — 3.70% ABV
NATURALLY SOURED WHEAT BEER WITH CORIANDER AND SALT ADDED. THIS BEER IS LIGHTLY TART, LEMONY, WITH A BIT OF SALT. VERY REFRESHING FOR THE SUMMER SEASONAL.
ON CASK! : PINEAPPLE X-PRESS – XPA — 5.20% ABV
A BRIGHT AND CITRUSY SAN DIEGO SESSION BEER. THE NOSE IS DECIDEDLY GRASSY AND TROPICAL. THE MALT IN THIS BEER IS NOT THE SHOWCASE, BUT YOU WILL GET A LITTLE HINT OF A HONEY SWEETNESS THAT COMPLIMENTS THE OVERALL FLAVOR OF THE BEER.
RICH MAN’S IIPA – AMERICAN DOUBLE IPA — 8.70% ABV
A BOLD COPPER-COLORED BEER WITH BEAUTIFUL GOLD EDGES, AND CROWNED WITH A STRONG WHITE HEAD. THE AROMA IS GRASSY WITH A NICE ORANGE AND MALT PRESENCE. THE MOUTHFEEL IS SMOOTH AND SOLID, WITH MALT THAT BACKS UP THE STICKY BITTERNESS. THE TASTE IS PINE, CITRUS, AND A LIGHT MALT SWEETNESS THAT ALL INTERPLAYS WITH THE ALCOHOL AND FINISHES QUITE DRY.
SWEET GEORGIA BROWN – ENGLISH BROWN ALE — 5.80% ABV
THE NOSE ALMOST COMES ACROSS AS CARAMEL, BUT WHEN YOU DRINK YOU WILL FIND THAT IT IS NOT SWEET. DARK, TOASTY, AND LIGHTLY SWEET WITH NOTES OF CHOCOLATE, COFFEE, BISCUIT, AND CARAMEL, THIS BEER IS COMPLEX BUT VERY DRINKABLE. A RUSTIC BUT BALANCED BEER WITHOUT A STRONG HOP PRESENCE, DEFINITELY MADE FOR THE MALT LOVERS IN THE WORLD.
